The words we use to each are other a Big deal! With our spouse, with our kids, and between our kids. Words can crush spirits or words can build each other up in Christ.

The Bible mentions the words we use numerous times.

Proverbs 12:18

The words of the reckless pierce like swords,

but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

Proverbs 15:4

The soothing tongue is a tree of life,

but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.

James 3:8

But no human being can tame the tongue.

It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and life are in the power of the tongue,

and those who love it will eat its fruits.

Today’s discussion questions are:

1. Have you been on the receiving end of hurtful words? How did it affect you and how did it come to resolution?

2. What are some ways you foster a positive environment, and help keep encouraging and wholesome talk a priority in your household?

3. Share with the group any advice or tips you have on avoiding hurtful words when you are in that tense moment when hurtful words are more prone to come out.

4. Share some Bible verses that discuss the words we use.
